  • Maybank Bridge, Allyson Conway Duran wrote 8 years ago:
The title of this entry would be incorrect, as the "Maybank Bridge" would more appropriately be the Burnet R. Maybank Bridge, a drawbridge over the Wappoo Creek. The Paul J. Gelegotis Bridge is also known as the Stono River Bridge, which was built in 2003 to replace a drawbridge from 1952.
  • Sol Legare Island, wcrymes (guest) wrote 10 years ago:
Wow. Erroneous has a new definition. The battle of Sol Legare occurred on June 3, 1862 and was the precursor to the Battle of Secessionville (James Island) fought on June 16, 1862. Union troops occupied James Island from June 2 through July 7, 1862. The battles of Fort Wagner was fought July 11 and 18, 1863. Union Officer Gilmore landed troops on Morris Island (the same island on which Fort Wagner once stood) on July 10, 1863 and never occupied Sol Legare or James Islands.
